Start with how you get paid. Military pay posts on the 1st and 15th. Early-payday accounts can put it in your account 1–2 business days sooner.
Check the fees you'd actually hit. Monthly fees, overdraft fees, out-of-network ATM fees and foreign transaction fees if you'll be OCONUS or deploy.
Make sure you can reach it. On-post branches and ATMs at your next base, an international phone line, and a good app.
Confirm you can join and who else can. Some credit unions let parents, siblings and kids join; online banks are open to everyone.
FAQ
Do I need a military bank?
No. Any bank works with military direct deposit. Military-focused banks and credit unions often add early pay, on-post branches and overseas support.
What does SCRA do for my bank accounts and loans?
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act caps interest at 6% on debts you took on before active duty, and helps with some leases. Some lenders go lower; we haven't verified bank-by-bank policies yet. Source: justice.gov.
Is my money insured?
Banks are insured by the FDIC and credit unions by the NCUA, generally up to $250,000 per depositor per ownership category. Each profile shows what the bank says about its own insurance.
Why is something marked “not verified”?
We only show facts we confirmed on the bank's official page or app store listing. If a page didn't load or didn't state it, we leave it blank instead of guessing.
App Store and Google Play ratings: not verified yet (we haven't pulled them from the official listings). Every fact above links to its source and was checked Oct 19, 2026.
